Opera Tour: New York City and Seance on a Wet Afternoon
Opera Santa Barbara and New York-based Pro Musica Tours present a 5-day tour to New York to celebrate the New York City Opera production of Stephen Schwartz's Séance on a Wet Afternoon, commissioned and premiered by Opera Santa Barbara. Guests will enjoy 4 nights superior accommodations at The Empire Hotel, located across the street from Lincoln Center at 63rd and Broadway. The Empire is recently renovated with stylish rooms, and a wide variety of dining options both in the hotel and within the immediate area. Staying at The Empire eliminates the need for any transfers to and from our three performances at Lincoln Center! Superior King Rooms are guaranteed, or you may opt for a superior room with two double beds.

  • WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20

    Independent arrivals in New York City. Check-in at the Empire Hotel.

    8:00 pm - Group Welcome Dinner at Bar Boulud, Daniel Boulud's trendy bistro located across the street from Lincoln Center.


  • THURSDAY, APRIL 21

    10:00 am - A deluxe coach will leave the hotel to take us on a private tour of some of the renowned art galleries in Soho. Following the tour, we will enjoy a gourmet lunch at one of Soho's finest restaurants. The coach will return to the hotel after lunch, giving you plenty of time to enjoy some afternoon shopping then dinner at your leisure.

    8:00 pm - Defying Gravity, a Tribute to Stephen Schwartz. New York City Opera's tribute to the award-winning Broadway and film composer with special guest vocalists performing a retrospective of his acclaimed works. Scheduled to appear are stage and screen stars Kristin Chenoweth and Raúl Esparza, with many others to be announced later this year. Following the performance, tour guests will enjoy no-host cocktails where we will be joined by some special guests.


  • FRIDAY, APRIL 22

    Morning and lunch at your leisure.

    1:00 pm - Verdi Master Class. A private master class with one of the leading Met coaches in Verdi style, featuring young artists from the Met and New York City Opera. This class will be an intimate and exciting opportunity to get a first hand look at the preparation required to sing the major Verdi roles.

    3:30 pm - Backstage Tour of the Metropolitan Opera. The most technologically advanced, and certainly busiest opera house in the country, going behind the scenes at The Met is a must for all opera lovers. This tour takes guests throughout the vast complex to the dressing rooms of their favorites stars, into rehearsal studios, through the shops where massive sets and ornate costumes are built, and of course, into the majestic theater itself.

    Dinner at your leisure.

    8:00 pm - Séance on a Wet Afternoon at the New York City Opera. Commissioned by Opera Santa Barbara, the NYCO production stars the mesmerizing Lauren Flanigan and Kim Josephson, both of whom performed in the OSB premiere. Conducted by NYCO's music director George Manahan, directed by Scott Schwartz.


  • SATURDAY, APRIL 23

    Full day and evening at your leisure. An optional matinee performance of a Broadway show or a performance at the Metropolitan Opera can be arranged by Pro Musica Tours.

    8:00 pm - Il Trovatore at the Metropolitan Opera. David McVicar's visually striking production is inspired by the haunting imagery of Francisco de Goya. James Levine conducts an all-star cast, including Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, Marcelo Álvarez, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and Stefan Kocán.


  • SUNDAY, APRIL 24

    Breakfast and morning at your leisure; independent check-out from Empire Hotel by noon.
Price: $1,975/person, double occupancy. Single Supplement: $650/person. Price includes all tips, tax, gratuities and the services of a Pro Musica Concierge during the entire trip. Airfare NOT included.

Payment Schedule: $500 due September 1; $500 due December 1; balance due February 15.

Cancellation Policy: 60 days prior to departure: full refund, less $250/person cancellation fee and the cost of any theater tickets that have been purchased on your behalf. 30-60 days prior to departure: full refund, less $250/person cancellation fee plus the cost of any theater tickets that have been purchased on your behalf, plus any penalties assessed by hotels and/or other suppliers. Less than 30 days prior to departure: no refund. Cancellation Insurance is available at a nominal additional cost through Pro Musica Tours.
