Opera Santa Barbara announces an Opera Lip Sync Competition! There will be a $1,000 cash first prize for the winner.

Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 pm at SOhO Music Club

Following are the competition rules:

  • Each contestant will be allowed one 4-minute (or less) aria or duet.
  • Judging will be based on Lip Sync Quality, Costuming, Performance Skills and Originality.
  • Each piece must be performed in its original language, i.e., English will only be allowed in operas that were originally written in English.
  • Contestants cannot perform to an aria or duet of their own voice/recording.
  • There will be 3 judges, and the audience will be allowed one vote, for a total of 4 votes.

There is a $25 registration fee for each contestant and the competition will be limited to a maximum of 15 contestants.

There will be a $10 fee at the door to attend the competition.

If you are interested in becoming a contestant, please contact Opera Santa Barbara by calling 805.898.3890 with your contact and payment information. You will need to identify your performance piece by June 1, 2012.

Did you know that Opera Santa Barbara offers discounts of 15% off the cost of tickets to our opera productions for groups of 15 or more? In addition, for our Friday evening performances, we offer a special “Group Cocktail Reception” for an additional $5 per person 1 1/2 hours prior to the start of the opera performance. The receptions feature wine, appetizers, and a “Preview Talk” about the opera from OSB General Director Steven Sharpe. Opera Santa Barbara videographer Daniel Anderson interviews Robin Wilson, one of the dancers from our current production of Orpheus & Eurydice. The production features extensive dance segments choreographed by Yannis Adoniou, and includes dancers from the State Street Ballet, Santa Barbara Dance Theatre and Bodytraffic.
