The Costumes of La Traviata

Opera Santa Barbara’s opening night for La Traviata will be a grand celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the reunification of Italy!

Joining us is Nicola Faganello, Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles and Alberto Di Mauro, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles. The event has been included as one of the “official” celebrations taking place nation wide.

The evening will feature valet parking, a four-course dinner prepared by Via Maestra with wines by Palmina, tickets to La Traviata and a grand celebration following the opera with the director, conductor and cast. All activities will take place at the Granada Theatre.

A little historical background: prior to the reunification of Italy in 1861, the nationalist phrase “Viva Vittorio Emanuele Re d’Italia!” (“Long Live Victor Emmanuel King of Italy”) was hidden from the Austrian censors by its acronym Viva VERDI, that passed for a praise of the music of Giuseppe Verdi.

Tickets to this event are $250 each for opera ticket holders, $350 each if you need a ticket to the opera performance. Tickets can be purchased by calling 805.898.3890.

He is one of two Grand Prize finalists in voice for the Los Angeles Music Center’s Spotlight Awards and will sing for in the finals on April 30 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. More than a thousand students throughout California applied, which was narrowed down to 90 semi-finalists, and now just 16 Grand Prize finalists- 2 each in eight different disciplines. Last year Geoff was one of eight national finalists in the Classical Singer Competition in New York and is auditioning for universities this Spring. Go get ’em Geoff!
